Intramuscular Injection Therapy
Experience therapeutic growth and healing with fast-acting injection therapy.
Initially developed as an anesthetic, injection therapy has been rediscovered as an interventional treatment for depression and anxiety disorders when administered at low doses in combination with therapy. This treatment is designed to provide therapeutic breakthroughs as part of a broader care plan.
You may be referred to Heading for injection treatment by your psychiatrist, or reach out to us directly for a consultation to determine your eligibility. Injection treatment is used to treat depression, anxiety, OCD, and PTSD.
2. Consultation
Join a psychiatrist for a consultation. During this 1-hour session, you and a Heading clinician will discuss your history, current symptoms, and treatment options, including injection therapy.
Injection treatment typically involves six sessions over the first three weeks — then maintenance sessions to be scheduled at a frequency determined by you and your Heading clinician. During each 45-minute session, you’ll be administered a low-dose of intramuscular (IM) injection. Your provider will be present to support you before, during, and after treatment to help you integrate the experience.
The science behind intramuscular injection therapy
injection therapy targets specific brain receptors to promote new, healthy connections between nerve cells. Its effects include pain relief, relaxation, and more flexible thinking.
Over time, mental and physical illnesses put stress on the body, which leads to damaged synapses in the brain. Injection therapy helps regenerate these neural pathways, creating the conditions for therapeutic growth and change
Injection therapy has been shown to be an effective treatment for a range of conditions, including depression and anxiety, but also PTSD, OCD, chronic pain, migraine, and fibromyalgia.
