Certified Medical Assistant
About the role
The Certified Medical Assistant is responsible for ensuring the wellbeing of patients and for providing a positive, supportive environment for patients and other staff while working in conjunction with physicians, advanced practitioners, front office, and clinical staff. Medical Assistants may also be required to assist or cover the front desk when necessary to expedite patient flow. The successful Medical Assistant will have strong communication skills and a dedication to customer service and patient care.
As a Certified Medical Assistant, you will be responsible for:
At the direction of the provider and in accordance with all regulations, must have the ability to prepare and administer all prescribed PO medication, and intranasal administration only after successful demonstration and completion of the clinical competency skills checklist.
Facilitate patient workflow identifying any barriers as they occur.
Perform Clinical Intake with patients to include taking and recording vital signs and pertinent history in patient’s chart (electronic medical record), patient data collection (e.g., chief complaint, allergies, medical history including current medications, social history, vital signs, etc.).
Laboratory specimen collection, checking blood sugars, obtaining urine specimen for pregnancy dipstick.
Administer Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) to patients under the supervision of the staff provider. Training will be provided.
Assist patients as needed with walking and room transfer. Assist safety to the car if need be/when patients are without a friend or family member.
Prepare examination rooms for patient treatments, keeping patient areas clean and appropriately stocked.
Assist clinical staff/clinician during the patient visit.
Perform calibrations and other quality control tests on laboratory equipment. (Acucheck machine).
Perform lab work as required or as appropriately trained to include entry of all lab data in the patient’s chart for proper review by the clinician.
Apply the use of logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, and approaches to problems.
Ensure the well-being of all patients and provide a positive, supportive environment for staff.
Triage patients call as needed.
Maintain and organize all instruments, equipment, and supplies.
Maintain clinical supplies and equipment and ensure proper storage of biohazards.
Clean exam/procedure rooms, instruments, and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control.
Practice effective infection control practices and policies.
Proper, concise, and complete EMR documentation and paper-based documentation for all assessments and procedures.
Comply with and follow policies and procedures as outlined by Heading.
Ability to deal with confidential information appropriately.
Work collaboratively with Area Clinical Leadership to complete administrative assignments, as time allows, and knowledge base support, such as chart audits, supply inventory, quality assurance assessment, etc.
Other reasonable duties as required by leadership, such as new models of care and new types of procedures, etc.

Qualifications & experience:
High School Diploma or equivalency (GED) required.
CPR certification required.
Completion of Medical Assistant training program from the Certifying Board of the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), or registration from the American Medical Technologists (AMT), or any other recognized certifying body approved by the Board.
Demonstrable customer service experience.
Experience working in healthcare or the mental health field is a plus.
Knowledge of basic computer software and a willingness to learn electronic medical records systems (EMR).
Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations, including OSHA and HIPAA requirements.
